“Who are the Pardnership Posse?”

This brave group of men and women ain’t a band of outlaws, but a posse of compadres on a mission of goodwill.

They are the joyful mavericks of fun; pardners in the fight against mediocrity, disengagement and boredom.

They are the Joyfully Jobless Jamboree’s Posse Pardners – a band of passionate, creative individuals joined together by a common call and inspired to lead by example and to help wrangle in an event like no other.

It never occurred to me that I would NOT start a business. I just didn’t know I couldn’t stop. I dreamed of my own Creative Arts School, but started an ad agency in my early 20s almost on a dare. I was hooked.

While my friends sat at jobs dreaming of escape, I went on vacation and dreamed up businesses. For myself, for friends, for anyone who showed an interest. Helping people create meaningful, profitable business that make a difference and improve lives gives my own work more meaning.

When young people say “If only I had wealthy parents to help me”, I cringe. I attribute my success to wisdom from my dad’s poor immigrant upbringing. The last time I saw him, my dad told me that if he could live his life over, he’d still start out peddling fruit from a cart, that he’d still prefer to be a merchant than a high level professional and he’d want to live exactly as he had. What a legacy-for a parent to die with no regrets.

When I decided to open my own agency, my dad didn’t offer to loan me money. He said, “I’m glad you’re resourceful.” He knew then what high level executives finally realize: that entrepreneurs possess the creative problem solving abilities to make it through tough times. My dad left a priceless inheritance. He showed me that my most valuable asset is my own resourcefulness, that the only true job security is the job you create for yourself.

I found my calling slowly, by a long, meandering route – therapist, childcare center owner, marketing consultant, “business opportunity” dupe. Fortunately, each gave me clues to my gifts and talents. I thrive on helping people design and create a custom career or small business. I advocate a life of self-exploration, discovery, and growth, where the purpose of work is to develop yourself and share who you are with the world. Possibilities unfold for travelers on this “Twisting Road” way of life. I invite you to join me. It’s a powerful way to live.

Life takes twist and turns that you never expect. But that’s part of what makes the entrepreneurial life so much fun!

I am a full-time freelance bilingual (English & French) voiceover talent.
My move to the entrepreneurial life started with my “dreaded” downsizing from a corporate recording studio…..or as I refer to it: “The day I was released to follow my dreams”

Deciding that it was now or never, I set-up my own professional studio and struck out on my own. I have never looked back!

Since I started my business in 2005, I spend my days recording and editing audio for clients worldwide. I have recorded “telephony” prompts for clients such as Jiffy Lube in the US, Allworx in Canada, and DAPY in France. I record medical and technical narrations, e-Learning modules, web site audio, as well as, of course, radio and TV commercials – all in both English and French. I have recorded jobs for Garmin, Chevrolet, Wendy’s, SwissAir, Dell, the Jonas Brothers, H.E.C Paris, and hundreds of large and small companies all over the world you have probably never heard of! That’s the beauty of voiceover!

I spend my days doing what I love. What could be better!

I became a Corporate Fugitive in 2007 after a lifetime of doing what was expected and being really good at it. I had a great career but felt restless much of the time, and eventually started to think it was a personality defect of mine to expect more! To quote a doctor mastermind friend of mine, “The Lord never gives you more than you can handle, in retrospect.” In hindsight, I had been showing symptoms of the entrepreneur in me trying to get out. I climbed the corporate ladder, went down a few times and even hopped on to a lateral ladder, in the quest for the right place for me. When I got pneumonia and discovered I’d rather be home sick than be at work, I knew it wasn’t the ladder. That was the beginning of the demise of my life as an employee. Once I gave it words, there was no turning back.

Within a short time of starting my new business I had figured out that the life of a marketing consultant was not all it was cracked up to be. I refused to adopt the stereotype of the workaholic business owner with a cell phone permanently attached to my head. I revamped my business and then created another one, replicating a lot of the same steps I used the first time. Corporate Fugitive was a nickname I coined for myself long before it became a business supporting others in starting and growing theirs. My career path and entrepreneurial journey are living proof that breaking free from the unexpected can lead to an extraordinary business and transform your life.

I grew up as a young artist in Brooklyn, NY…following my creative passions to bring smiles to myself and others. Whether I was drawing, dancing, producing plays or parties, nothing was more fun than my favorite past-time…“Coming Up with Ideas.” As a child, one “idea flowing” session led me to do a scavenger hunt around the house…and turn my findings (mom’s perfume bottle, pipe-cleaners and green yarn) into a hula-dancing doll.

Sharing ideas and smiles with others continued into my first career as a graphic designer, and then into my new career “A.B.W.” (“After Barbara Winter”)… as an entrepreneur. Starting at first with popular (although now-defunct) side-business projects like inspirationally-themed bracelets; and a positive newsletter, “Happy-Stuff News”…my current business has evolved into a more exciting form. NOW, it is comprised of events to help uplift others…events which share my passion and belief in holistic health (whole health in body, mind and spirit), with my passion and belief in ballroom dance (for fun, stress-relief, and “life-celebration”)!

WHOLE LIFE BOOGIE: Live Happy, Be Healthy…and DANCE! Holistic health and self development events…with a touch of ballroom dance fun. Let my life-long relationship with creativity; twenty years of self-work and classes with holistic professionals (including “E.F.T.” Emotional Freedom Technique and other “meridian tapping”); and 15 years of ballroom dance experience help YOU to more fully enjoy YOUR journey!

Six word memoir: Happy, holistic living…meets ballroom dance!

Looking back the threads of my “working without a job” life were apparent in childhood when I spent summers volunteering at a cerebral palsy day care center. Somehow, I missed this connection after college graduation and spent five years working as a Spanish translator. One day I realized I had to get out of that cubicle! I wanted to see people and help them in a meaningful way. After considerable research and a move from Kansas to Connecticut, I went back to school and obtained a Masters in Social Work.

Because the focus of my work as a therapist was to help clients create a compelling future rather than relive their past, when I finished my Ph. D. in Psychology, I completed certification courses at the College of Executive Coaching and started a life coaching practice. I specialize in helping individuals facing challenging life transitions, and at some point that seems to include most of us.

I have reinvented myself so many times in my life I’ve lost count. Some of the many different lives I’ve had are secretary, proofreader, insurance adjuster, dressmaker, lawyer, author, speaker, teacher, model, coach, entrepreneur, voice teacher, professional musician, recording artist, mother, wife, cat-lady, greyhound rescuer, and champion quartet singer. Through all these different experiences, I have learned very well how to change the direction my life is heading, and I have a vision of how I want my life to look. I am an expert at mapping out paths to new professions or adventures. The purpose of my company is to help you figure out how to make those maps, too. Once you have the tools to map your own journey, you’ll be well on your way to reinventing yourself and creating the life you want. Let’s dive in! Your future awaits!

I’m a sixty-something, single, Jill-of-all-trades who nurtures two grown kids with spouses, three grandchildren and my 95 yr old father. I’ve lived in 8 states, had a dozen careers and lots of unique experiences. (I was a magician’s assistant for 12 years!) On my last day of full-time employment in 2007 I was at a “Work at What You Love” seminar with Barbara Winter and my life took a new turn.

As the founder of Life and Work by Design, my passion is educating other mid-lifers about all the possibilities for fun, lifelong learning and rewarding work or community contribution. I believe that we can choose to create a happy, healthy life and I constantly look for ways to help folks who want to do that.

I love sharing my ideas and enthusiasm for an inspired life with my readers and students through Don’t Retire; Re-Inspire! workshops, an e-zine called Living Your Way, my So What’s Next? blog and a series of Folks after 50 e-books and presentations which will be available in the Fall of 2010.

In my own mid-life phase I am returning to my love of sailing, fabric arts and writing. A book about life as a single woman over 60 is dancing around in my head. A favorite quote from Maya Angelou sums up my goal for this time of life – “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.”

I walked away from my corporate marketing job in the food industry in October of 2008 to form Y Marketing LLC., a company that provides marketing support to other food companies in the form of product demonstrations, publicity, conferences and trade shows. At the same time, I started another LLC with two business partners, the Foodservice Educators Learning Community, a professional membership association for culinary arts and hospitality educators where my role is partner, office manager, membership, company marketing and conference planning.

I have so many interests, there are too many to list, but here’s a snapshot of my life when I’m not working. One of my largest passions is travel. I was lucky enough in my former j-o-b to have the opportunity to travel a lot and now I get to spend more time traveling for fun! I enjoy pretty much any kind of art and crafts, scrapbooking, rubber stamping and I’m currently playing around with journal making. I love to read and always look forward to a good book discussion and since I live in Colorado, love the outdoors- camping, hiking, snowshoeing and skiing.

My strong belief in lifelong learning, meeting other entrepreneurs as well as my event planning experience lead me to join the Jamboree Posse. I’m looking forward to celebrating the fun, accomplishments and struggles of the Joyfully Jobless Life.
